9:30 pm - 11:20 pm
Berlin Feminist Film Week & Mobile Kino Present:
SILVANA follows sensational Swedish rapper, feminist and activist Silvana Imam during the first years of her career and her journey from an underground artist to an icon. She is an outspoken and uncompromising artist, not afraid to speak up on political topics and making it part of her music.
Silvana Imam is not only a phenomenal rapper and artist but her icon status stems from the many facets of her identity: as a rapper, a lesbian, a feminist, an immigrant, an anti-racist activist. Outwards, she almost seems like a super hero who can do anything. But the directors Mika Gustafson, Olivia Kastebring and Christina Tsiobanelis also let a complex personality with flaws, ambivalence and, momentarily, self-doubt shine through and how hard it is to find work-life balance when living up to being a role model. In addition, SILVANA captures the first fumbling steps from Silvanas yet unrequited love to Beatrice Eli to their now status as a real power couple in the music industry.
SILVANA is an intimate and powerful portrait at once, which is not only for fans of Silvana Imam but an important insight into activism, growing up outside of the norm in Swedish society and a representation of this generation of Swedes.
