Welcome to the 41st INTERFILM festival!

In an era in which democracy is put to the test on a daily basis, in which liberty and freedom of expression are under pressure everywhere we look, film is more than entertainment – it becomes a lever, an assembly, a strategy. With the 41st edition of INTERFILM, we call, amidst all the chaos, crises and constructed narratives, for the creation of spaces in which solidarity sustains, resistance grows, memories remain alive and utopias germinate.

As always, INTERFILM not only asks what we see, but instead – to a greater degree – how we can act. Where are spaces being created for solidarity, resistance, memory and utopia? How can we preserve stories that would otherwise be drowned out by the noise of crises? And how can we manage to hold each other up, instead of breaking each other down?

Our programs tell of those that push on in spite of dark times, reach out a helping or conciliatory hand, laugh, cry, quarrel – and become stronger together. A solar eclipse doesn’t have to be the end. We take this darkness as our starting signal, to weave together what defines us: stories, community – and perhaps a touch of madness to carry us through the week. Film is not only art, it is also a stance. In this spirit: open those hearts and eyes – and off we go.

Willkommen zum 41sten INTERFILM Festival!

In einer Zeit, die unsere Demokratie täglich auf die Probe stellt, in der Freiheit und Meinungsvielfalt überall unter Druck geraten, ist Film mehr als Unterhaltung – er wird zum Hebel, zur Versammlung, zur Strategie. Mit der 41. Edition des INTERFILM Festivals rufen wir dazu auf, zwischen all dem Chaos, den Krisen und den konstruierten Narrativen Räume zu schaffen, in denen Solidarität trägt, Widerstand wächst, Erinnerungen lebendig bleiben und Utopien keimen.

Wie immer fragt INTERFILM nicht nur, was wir sehen, sondern vielmehr, wie wir handeln können. Wo entstehen Räume für Solidarität, Widerstand, Erinnerung und Utopie? Wie bewahren wir Geschichten, die sonst im Lärm der Krisen verstummen? Und wie schaffen wir es, einander zu halten, statt uns gegenseitig zu brechen?

Unsere Programme erzählen von denen, die trotz dunkler Zeiten weitergehen, Hände reichen, lachen, weinen, streiten – und gemeinsam stärker werden. Eine Sonnenfinsternis muss kein Ende sein. Wir nehmen die Dunkelheit als Startsignal, um zu verweben, was uns ausmacht: Geschichten, Gemeinschaft – und vielleicht ein bisschen Wahnsinn, der uns durch die Woche trägt. Film ist nicht nur Kunst, sondern Haltung. Also Augen und Herzen auf – und los geht’s.
